Natural Sweetener: Raw Maguey Sap from Salviana

FROZEN-41Raw Maguey Sap from Salviana

Hubby and I try to stay away from cane sugar. We generally prefer honey. I recently found a natural sweetener that I had never heard of. Raw Maguey Sap has been used for over 1,000 years. Traditionally used in the Teotihuacan civilization. This sap, also called “honeywater”, comes from the Mexican Maguey Plant. This plant is thought to have therapeutic properties. Salviana offers this Gluten free, Low GI, Vegan sweetener on their website.

Great in coffee or as a natural substitute any added liquid sweetener in recipes. Each Maguey plant can produce around 1000 Liters of sap called Aquamiel in 3-6 months. Flavor is kind of like caramel. Sweet but nutty.
