Coconut Secret – Innovators of Low Glycemic. Gluten-Free Healthy Foods

home9Coconut Nectar

Coconut Nectar is just that 100% organic raw coconut nectar. There are no other ingredients. It smells a little like molasses and can be used as a natural low glycemic sweetener in almost any recipe. Do remember if you are substituting for a dry sweetener you will have to adjust the recipe accordingly. For liquid sweetener substitutions it’s a 1:1 replacement ratio.  Does coconut nectar taste like coconut? No, not at all, it is just thick sweet goodness. Amazing on pancakes, waffles, in oatmeal etc… I use it for making homemade raw chocolates and for dipping berries in. Delicious. Every batch of Coconut Nectar is hand made and then bottled all at low temperatures to ensure it stays in the most natural form possible. Over heating of liquid sweeteners can turn them to high percentages of fructose. The nectar is shelf stable so you don’t have to worry about refrigeration.

Coconut Vinegar

Coconut Vinegar is also Raw and enzymatically alive. This is good news when your are wanting to get all the nutrition available from foods. This vinegar, made from raw coconut tree sap, contains 17 amino acids, potassium, a natural occurring probiotic called FOS that aids in digestion as well as numerous vitamins. That’s a lot of nutrition in one product. Aged for 8 months to a year, Coconut Vinegar is fabulous in salad dressings, marinades and can actually be used for skincare. The health benefits of vinegar are almost unending. Look it up sometime. While you are at it check out all the ways coconut is great for the body too. You put these two together and all I can say is wow. How does Coconut Vinegar taste and smell? Like vinegar, there is no coconut flavor or aroma. It is made from the tree sap, not the coconut itself.

Eat Raw Eat Well – 400 Raw, Vegan and Gluten-Free Recipes

I love food. I mean really love food. I love to eat, read cookbooks from cover to cover, cook, prepare, and watch shows about food. I even work in nutrition. Yeah I know the perfect job for me. One thing you need to know about food is you can have amazing food that tastes delicious and satisfies completely and is still healthy. Yes, I said it. Healthy can  fulfill all your culinary desires if you find the right cookbooks. I found one of the best from Robert Rose. I totally love this company. If you are a regular reader of Texas Kitchen you know they have a number of fabulous cookbooks available. They sent me Eat Raw Eat Well for review.
I Love this recipe book. I don’t call it a cookbook because all the recipes included are “Raw”. Sounds scary to some of y’all I’m sure. But raw foods are defined on About.com as: Raw Foods consist of unprocessed raw vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). “Raw foodists” believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost their enzymes and thus a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body, whereas uncooked foods provide living enzymes and proper nutrition.
“Eat Raw Eat Well” is perfect for my families dietary needs. Though we do occasionally eat meat I cannot have cow’s milk products so Vegan is for me. Hubby needs to cut out wheat so gluten free helps him out.

Eat Raw, Eat Well

Creative raw-cuisine recipes for delicious, nutrient-rich dishes.

Raw-food diets (where food is eaten raw or, if heated, the temperature can’t exceed 118 degrees Fahrenheit) are becoming increasingly popular for a variety of reasons: some seek the benefits of weight loss and increased energy, as well as a reduced risk of certain diseases; others have an aversion to animal-based foods or simply wish to consume more whole, nutrient-rich ingredients.

This wonderful collection of recipes will appeal to both newcomers to and veterans of the raw-food lifestyle — the recipes are imaginative, they feature easy-to-follow instructions, and the results are incredibly delicious. From hearty breakfasts that will get your day off to an energized start to satisfying soups and sumptuous main courses and sides to lush, decadent desserts that will indulge the most discriminating sweet tooth, these recipes reflect Doug’s talent and commitment to raw cuisine.
In addition, there’s a wealth of information on how to properly prepare the ingredients in advance of meal preparation to enhance their nutritional value, as well as a comprehensive list of “raw pantry” essentials. If you’ve decided that the raw-food lifestyle is for you, look no further than Eat Raw, Eat Well.
