Earth’s Berries – Soap Nuts Giveaway

I think we all want to do our part to help the environment and save a little money too. Earth’s Berries Soap Nuts has a great way to do so while cleaning your home and laundry naturally. What could be more natural than using Fruit straight from the Soap Nut Tree. Apparently there is a naturally occurring cleaning agent imbedded in the shells of soap nut called saponin that is great for cleaning. How Many Soap Nuts Do You Need?

As with any recipe, you can experiment with how much or how little soap nuts you need. It all depends on your laundry demands: the fabric, amount of dirt, stains, etc. What’s great about soap nuts is that such adjustments can be easily made. Simply keep in mind that soap nuts release saponin best in warm to hot water.

With this in mind, here are a few suggested “recipes” to start from:

• 4-5 soap nuts for a cold-water wash pre soaked in hot tap water first
• 4-5 soap nuts for hot water
• 5-6 soap nuts for hard water or heavily soiled items
• Reuse soap nuts 3-4 times before discarding shells to the compost or garden.

* Use 1/4 cup of soap nut liquid (see recipe below)

Soap nuts also work better in soft water. For areas with hard water, keep in mind that an average of two more soap nuts will be needed per load. However, since soap nuts are reusable, you can still save in the long run.

As said, soap nuts can be reused a few times before being discarded. If you’re washing both hot and cold loads, start with the hot first. For cold-only wash cycles, soak the soap nuts in warm/hot water first to activate the saponin and then, add the entire solution to your laundry. This way, you get the full effect of the soap nuts from the very start.

Naturally I was curious how these berries would work so we did a load of laundry. My towels came out smelling really clean. The soap nuts do not leave behind a fragrance so they are safe for those with sensitive skin. You can however use a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your laundry if ya want. (Check your labels first to make sure it’s safe)
